Our ability to collaborate in organisations has contributed significantly to humanity. The last two centuries in particular have seen the modern organisation contribute to amazing progress in many areas – from putting a man on the moon, to distributing food and goods throughout the world, to dramatically improving our ability to provide healthcare.
Not to be overly dramatic, I believe how we work in our organisations in the future will have a significant impact on the survival of our species.
Unfortunately, many of our organisations are not responding well to the challenges and opportunities presented by the complex, fast-changing, interdependent world we now live in. For example, organisations are struggling to balance the needs of ALL their stakeholders (staff, customers, suppliers, local community, society, the environment, and so on) which compromises their ability to implement timely and appropriate changes.
